The site is open from 4 PM to midnight, and there is no entrance fee.

Attraction 1: Taejongsa Temple

Founded in 1976, Taejongsa Temple is known for its beautiful hydrangeas. The resident monk has been collecting various flowers for 40 years, making it one of the best places in South Korea to see hydrangeas in bloom. Every June, the temple hosts the Hydrangea Festival, though it may not occur if the flowers are not in optimal condition. Even without the festival, the flowers are worth a visit.

Attraction 2: Danubi Train

The Danubi Train at Taejongdae, a tourist attraction in South Korea.

The Danubi Train, named for its route that allows visitors to enjoy scenic views throughout Taejongdae, offers a quick and convenient way to explore the area. Despite its name, it is actually a long vehicle rather than a traditional train. The train stops at the observatory, Yeongdo Lighthouse, and Taejongsa Temple.

The fare is approximately $2, and for double the price, you can purchase a ticket that allows you to hop on and off. The train has three cars, with the second and third cars being the best options as the front car's view is obstructed by the driver's seat.

From June to August, the train operates from 9:20 AM to 7:30 PM, and from 9:20 AM to 5:30 PM during other months. It does not run on Mondays.

Attraction 3: The Observatory

Before reaching the observatory, you can enjoy watching the many adorable cats that live nearby. The cats tend to keep their distance, so they are only for viewing.

From the observatory, you can see the ocean and the waves crashing against the rocks, creating stunning white sprays. On clear days, you can even see Tsushima Island in Japan. The observatory also has places where you can buy snacks and souvenirs.

Attraction 4: Yeongdo Lighthouse

The lighthouse at Taejongdae, a tourist destination in South Korea.
Yeongdo Lighthouse is a short two-minute walk from the observatory. The path is easy to navigate, and it's close enough to reach on foot without taking the Danubi Train.

The lighthouse has been operational since December 1906. It is open from 10 AM to 5 PM, and you can still see its light at night if you visit after dark.

Below the lighthouse, there is a Haenyeo Village. Haenyeo are traditional female divers who collect seafood directly from the ocean. At the Haenyeo Village, you can enjoy fresh seafood caught by these divers. Seafood lovers will find this a delightful experience.
